On the 8th November, the Phoenix Flyers team will start their journey across to South Africa to begin the hard and gruelling task of riding 420km over 5 days. We're raising funds for the Phoenix Burns Project, a South African Charity, in support of ABC, Action for Burns and Children.
Our mission is to commit our hearts, minds and bodies to raise awareness and funds towards reducing the long-term suffering of children who've been badly burnt, scalded and traumatised by unsafe paraffin stoves, candles and hot water in the impoverished townships of South Africa.
One important task that needs to be completed before we can leave however, is the choosing of an appropriate mascot for our LEAD RIDER EXTRODINAIRE to carry with him on his bike through the whole journey. Puddles and all!
We have had 3 contenders in the race:
- The monkey;
- The pink pony;
- The lion.
So far there are two clear favourites, both neck and neck with 3 votes remaining....
WATCH THIS SPACE!!! (especially you Conrad, we may need to match your outfit with the mascot's colour)
Other team preparations are now in full swing. The ladies have sourced appropriate "butt creams" (although still thoroughly confused by the concept) and team outfits have arrived!!
Lets hope this is the only piece of lycra we'll see by the boys on the trip..
